Recognised for his contribution to Western Australia's medical technology ecosystem and world-leading advances in cardiac diagnostics: Professor Girish Dwivedi awarded 2026 WA Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year
Announcement posted by Pearcey Foundation 17 Jul 2026
The Pearcey Foundation today announced cardiologist, academic leader and health technology entrepreneur Professor Girish Dwivedi as the recipient of the 2026 Western Australian Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award was presented as part of the 35th annual WAITTA INCITE Awards, Western Australia's longest running tech awards program.
Professor Dwivedi has combined bold entrepreneurial risk-taking with a lasting commitment to building Western Australia's medical technology ecosystem. In addition to his medical and academic achievements, Professor Dwivedi co-founded both Lubdub AI and CAD Spectral Technologies, and was a founding employee of Artrya (ASX:AYA) in 2019 when AI-driven cardiac diagnostics were in their infancy. Artrya's market capitalisation is currently over A$920 million.
His many roles include Clinical Lead for Innovation for the South Metropolitan Health Service (where he was awarded 2026 Researcher of the Year), Professor of Cardiology at The University of Western Australia (UWA), Clinical Advisor to ProGenis Pharmaceuticals, and a contributor to many national advisory bodies on AI and health policy.
Having secured over A$33 million in research funding, Professor Dwivedi continues developing new platforms like Orva, a pioneering health platform that uses generative artificial intelligence to translate complex medical information into plain language, proving that globally relevant innovation, and the people who drive it, can come from WA.
Professor Girish Dwivedi embodies the entrepreneurial leadership the Pearcey Awards were created to recognise. What distinguished Professor Dwivedi was not a single successful venture, but his remarkable ability to repeatedly identify opportunity, take calculated risks and transform world-leading Australian research into globally significant health technology companies.
"Professor Dwivedi is an outstanding representative of Western Australia's entrepreneurial capability and a thoroughly deserving recipient of the 2026 WA Pearcey Entrepreneur Award. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, he has successfully brought together researchers, clinicians, investors and industry to create ventures that are improving healthcare, advancing artificial intelligence and demonstrating that globally competitive innovation can originate in Western Australia. Beyond commercial success, he has strengthened our innovation ecosystem through leadership, mentorship and collaboration, creating a legacy that extends well beyond any individual company," said Celia Jordaan, Chief Judge, INCITE Awards.
Professor Girish Dwivedi
Professor Girish Dwivedi completed his PhD in non-invasive cardiac imaging at the University of Manchester in 2010, with research into heart conditions and cardiac blood flow.
Before moving to Western Australia, he worked in Canada as a Clinician Scientist and Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, developing his expertise in advanced cardiovascular imaging.
In 2017, Professor Dwivedi joined The University of Western Australia (UWA) and Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth. Since then, his cutting-edge research has integrated basic science, advanced multimodality cardiac imaging, and artificial intelligence to better understand and improve heart and metabolic health.
Professor Dwivedi's commercial ventures bring together clinical expertise, imaging science and data-driven technologies to produce practical diagnostic products. These include AI-enabled cardiac imaging, portable biosensing, digital ECG solutions, patch-based echocardiography and retinal imaging for vascular risk assessment.
At Artrya, he was involved from the company's early formation and has served as Chief Scientific Officer since 2022. Artrya develops AI technology for detecting and assessing coronary artery disease using cardiac CT imaging, and has progressed through clinical validation, intellectual property development, public listing on the ASX and internationally approved products.
He is also a director and co-founder of Lubdub AI, a cardiovascular digital health venture focused on remote and point-of-need heart assessment, and a co-founder of CAD Spectral Technologies, which applies retinal imaging and AI to cardiovascular risk assessment.
Professor Dwivedi currently holds several senior academic and research appointments across Western Australia's cardiovascular research ecosystem, including at UWA, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. He has supervised and mentored more than 30 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and currently leads multidisciplinary teams working across cardiovascular research, AI and digital health.
Across his ventures and leadership roles, Professor Dwivedi has contributed to the development of AI-enabled cardiovascular diagnostics, digital health platforms and multidisciplinary innovation programs. This has included providing strategic and clinical translation support to ProGenis Pharmaceuticals.
As an author, Professor Dwivedi's research has resulted in more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, and he has written chapters for prestigious books in cardiology.
Professor Dwivedi has held many national and international advisory roles across AI in healthcare, cardiovascular medicine and research strategy. These roles have supported collaboration between clinicians, researchers, engineers, data scientists, industry, investors and government stakeholders.
As the WA Pearcey Award recipient, Professor Dwivedi will represent the state in the Pearcey National Awards to be held later this year.
